Providing critical resources and
opportunities for Indigenous Artists

The Indigenous Community Advisory Board (ICAB) is established by the Indigenia Arts Foundation to provide cultural guidance, strategic insights, and community-based knowledge. The ICAB ensures that the foundation’s mission, programs, and operations uphold and amplify the voices of Indigenous artists, students, and communities across North America.

Mission

To integrate Indigenous perspectives into the decision-making, operations, and initiatives of the Indigenia Arts Foundation, fostering equity, authenticity, and cultural pride while supporting Indigenous art and education.

Purpose

The ICAB serves to:

  • Ensure the foundation’s programs align with Indigenous cultural values, practices, and protocols.
  • Advocate for the representation, rights, and empowerment of Indigenous artists and students.
  • Provide strategic and cultural insights on scholarship programs, art gallery operations, and community outreach.
  • Strengthen the foundation’s relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and leaders.

Membership

Composition
  • The ICAB will consist of 5 to 10 members representing diverse Indigenous nations, tribes, and communities across North America.
  • Membership will include elders, artists, educators, youth representatives, and professionals with expertise in fields relevant to the foundation’s mission.

Eligibility

  • Members must be Indigenous or have significant ties to Indigenous communities.
  • Members should have expertise in areas such as arts, education, cultural preservation, land stewardship, or community leadership.

Terms

  • Members will serve a term of two years, with the option for renewal upon mutual agreement.
  • Membership will be reviewed annually to ensure alignment with the ICAB’s goals and vision.

Roles and Responsibilities

Advisory Board Members

  • Provide informed and culturally sensitive guidance on the foundation’s initiatives.
  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings.
  • Collaborate on strategies for supporting Indigenous artists and students.
  • Act as cultural ambassadors, fostering trust and engagement with Indigenous communities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in discussions and decisions.

Chairperson

  • Facilitate ICAB meetings and set agendas in collaboration with the foundation’s leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the ICAB and the Indigenia Arts Foundation board of directors.

Compensation

Payment Structure

  • Members will receive $200 per meeting or $50 per hour, recognizing their time, expertise, and contributions.
  • Compensation will be reviewed annually and adjusted as necessary to reflect the foundation’s budget and the value of the members’ input.

Reimbursement

  • Members will be reimbursed for travel, lodging, childcare, and other related expenses to ensure equitable participation.

Meetings

Frequency

  • The ICAB will meet bi-annually, with additional meetings scheduled as needed.

Format

  • Meetings may be held in person, virtually, or hybrid, depending on members’ availability and geographic locations.

Quorum

  • A quorum of 60 percent of members must be present to conduct official business.

Agenda and Minutes

  • Agendas will be distributed at least one week before each meeting.
  • Meeting minutes will be documented and shared with ICAB members and the foundation’s leadership.
